Virtual Environments

While I am interested in a variety of virtual environments (e.g., immersive "virtual reality" simulations, the Internet, web-based applications, one's own thoughtspace) for a variety of reasons, the type of virtual environment that is the focus of much of my current research is the "meso-immersive" virtual environment. These types of virtual envrionments - a 3D immersive virtual space a user interacts with using a 2D screen and any number of input devices (e.g., mouse, keyboard, joystick) - should be quite familiar in concept, as many computer games and 3D simulations are examples.

From a broad perspective, I am interested in the use of meso-immersive virtual environments for ecological and envrionmental education, especially concerning the understanding and appreaciation of the complex nature of ecological systems.
